Benjamin Catch McAvene is a 20 year old singer/songwriter born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. Musically, he is inspired by the beauty of nature and seeks to capture feelings of wonder, reverence, and youthful optimism in his original music. His 5 piece band, Farren, which animates his solo efforts into a full musical world, provides a danceable, romantic soundtrack to the natural beauty we find all around us. Both acts, Benjamin Catch and Farren, are available for booking all summer at benmcavene@gmail.com.
Pete Muller and the Kindred Souls is an instrumental vocal group consisting of Pete (piano), John Whooley (guitar, sax), Missy Soltero (cajon), Martha McDonnell (violin) and Aubrey Richmond (violin, mandolin).
They blend folk intimacy with classic pop charm and jazz sophistication to deliver organic, harmony-rich performances that explore the crossroads of American roots and soul music. The band’s studio debut, The Sound, offers a crash course in their sonic DNA, with warm, stripped-down interpretations of songs by the likes of Buffalo Springfield, Bill Withers, and Bobby McFerrin alongside Muller’s eponymous “Kindred Soul,” a tender, sweeping meditation on the passage of time and the power of human connection. Produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National), the collection yielded multiple Top 20 singles at Adult Contemporary Radio and garnered rave reviews for its bold re-imaginings of familiar classics.
With a blend of styles from Americana, Folk and Indie Rock, Conner Cherland’s voice compares with present day singers like Hozier, Ed Sheeran, and Shakey Graves. Combined with his live guitar looping, foot percussion, and carefully chosen lyrics, you’re likely to wonder how so many sounds can come from just one man.
Pete Muller is a problem solver. Whether he’s writing songs for his critically acclaimed albums, revolutionizing the way Wall Street works through applied mathematics, or crafting crosswords for the New York Times and Washington Post, the hyper-talented renaissance man always seems to have his eye on unlocking some deeper level of understanding. With his touching new album, Spaces, Muller takes on perhaps the biggest puzzle of them all: himself.
Recorded with Emmy Award-winning producer/arranger Rob Mathes (Sting, Rod Stewart, Carly Simon, Panic! At The Disco), Spaces is a lush and timeless collection, one that balances head and heart in equal measure as it wrestles with questions of love and connection and purpose and identity. The writing here is tender and poignant, fueled by profoundly empathetic character studies and remarkably vulnerable acts of self-reflection, and the performances are warm and dynamic to match, mixing singer/songwriter intimacy with classic pop charm and jazz sophistication. Add it all up and you’ve got a rich, moving work of radical honesty that leaves no stone unturned in its examination of the tension between duty and fate, between commitment and escape, between who we are and who we’re meant to be.
Making waves along the west coast in various small towns and dives as a talented young guitar player, Cole backed other artists for years touring extensively throughout the states and internationally. Playing everywhere from Dublin Ireland to LA’s Troubadour.
Cole continues to come into his own as a solo artist with a DIY spirit, grabbing attention anywhere he graces with his blend of hungry visceral energy, and easy listening mood setting. Each performance is a unique expression of his many different sides. Unpredictable and honest to the moment.
Inspired by the upbeat vibes of Jason Mraz, Bob Marley, and Paul Simon, David’s soul-stirring songs and world beat grooves get his audiences up on their feet and dancing.
Deeply inspired by nature and the ocean, David’s music emerges from his life experiences as a Yogi, surfer, and sailor. His songs carry a universal message of love, self-empowerment and “being the change” we wish to see in the world.
While healing inherently stems from a place of darkness, Riorden navigates the process with an air of hopefulness throughout her music, never lingering in the dark too long and always moving towards something more empowering. Her most recent album, Angel City Radio is less despairing and more a journey of self-love, reassurance, and finding trust in the world.
“Riorden reminds us of the perks of being a weird flower… the artfully offbeat, deep-feeling performer [is] already a master of atmosphere. She has emerged this year with a well-crafted, theatrical kind of moonlit, moody rock n’ roll.”
